New report urges big oil contracts for Ugandans

A team commissioned by the government to conduct a study on how the private sector and state agencies can benefit from the oil and gas resource has released a draft report. Fort Portal - A Radiographer at the referral hospital has been remanded to Katojo government prison after soliciting a Shs15, 000 bribe from a patient.

FIA approves Uganda Pearl closed rally

World Motorsport body, FIA has approved the KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally route, recommending it to run from July 15-17.

Architecture gets c’wealth accreditation

The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) yesterday granted full accreditation to the Bachelor of Architecture programme.

Uganda polls hurt Kenyans’ car sales

Kenyan car retailer CMC Holdings posted a small drop in net profit in its first half to the end of March, hit by slower sales and rising costs as it raised debt provisions, the company has said. Rukungiri CAO closes Illegal schools

Two schools in Rukungiri District have been closed a few days into the second term. The move follows an inspection by the district’s Chief Administrative Officer, Weren Muhendo Rujumba that found the facilities were operating illegally. Two held over stoning Kayihura

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stoning and injuring the Inspector General of Police Maj.Gen.Kale Kayihura. Treason suspects sue Director of Public Prosecution

Two men, who have allegedly spent nine years without trial, have dragged the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Richard Buteera to Court over failure to prosecute them. Grace Barihaihi and Fred Biryomumaiso, who are jointly charged with treason, want High Court to quash the criminal proceedings against them because it appears the DPP has no interest in the case.

Makerere in campaign to save water

Makerere University will start a programme geared at addressing the contemporary issues pertaining to water and sanitation degradation.
According to Moses Tenwya, the Director of Makerere University Agriculture Research, water resources are facing serious challenges due to population increase.

Karimajong advised against FGM

Kotido Resident District Commissioner Andrew Chen Napaja, has asked the Karimajong to shun Female Genital Mutilation. Napaja, who was on Sunday speaking at the Leadership Forum described the practice as obsolete and an abuse to dignity of the girl-child. “Practices such as FGM and rape in marriage have no room in modern society,” Napaja said. He also urged the Karimajong to embrace government programmes like education, aimed at development in the region.
