Karamoja - Local Defence Unit personnel recruited and deployed by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have received training on how to protect children. According to the UPDF Division 3 spokesperson Capt Deo Akiiki, the LDUs, who were recruited after a presidential directive and have been operating in the Karamoja sub region for six months now, had internalised the work ethics of working in a unique area like Karamoja.
