1.3bn tons of food wasted annually

While millions of Ugandans sleep on empty stomachs and the rate of malnutrition shoots on the upper end, the well-to-do are throwing away millions of tons of food into the trash bins. In a 2011 report released by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), industrialised and developing countries throw away close the same quantities of food at 670 and 630 million tons respectively.
