Dubai deports sick Ugandans

Long envied as one of the preferred business destinations for Ugandans, the Middle Eastern city of Dubai has surprised many local traders with the expulsion of all Ugandan businessmen deemed sick. Rot, filth lurk in Uganda prisons

The condition of prisoners in many of Ugandan prisons is frightening. Basic needs such as food, water and sanitation are way below acceptable levels, according to research conducted by a key human rights organisation.

Man sent to Luzira for jumping bail

A man has been remanded to Luzira prison for jumping bail. Court presided over by Grade 1 Magistrate Peko Lokeri last Tuesday heard that Dan Mugula, a resident of Busega Kabale and a defence witness was already a wanted man for failure to appear in court for his own case. Mugula who had appeared in Muwanga II Court on July 19, as a key witness in a civil case was apprehended immediately by court police, charged and remanded to Luzira prison again.

Soldier’s children poisoned

Two children of an army veteran and another one of his neighbour have been poisoned, and one of them died on the spot.

The poisoned children have been identified as Shamilah Nakito 3, Sharitah Nakawooya, 7 months and Stecia, 4, their neighbour. Nakito died on the spot while Nakawooya and one Stecia were rushed to Mulago Hospital in critical condition.

Drunkard sentenced to a day’s community service

Court has sentenced a man to 24 hours of community service for driving under the influence of alcohol. The magistrates’ court at Mwanga II on Tuesday sentenced Lucky Mbogo Juma, 26, a resident of Mengo to community service to serve in the same area he was arrested, at Rubaga Cathedral parking area Court heard that on July 16, Mbogo, a local artist was arrested by police as he drove out from Rubaga Cathedral parking area, almost knocking other cars in the process.
