Land grabs blamed for dwindling forest cover

The endless grabbing of forest reserves and clearing of forests has left the country without timber and mature trees. At the current rate of deforestation, according to statistics from the National Forestry Authority, there will be no mature trees standing by the end of the year.

The statistics also reveal that Uganda had a total of 3.55 million hectares of forest land. But in 1990, the forest cover reduced to 24 per cent and then 17.4 per cent in 2005. Currently it is
