Jinja - What was viewed as a fracas that would only envelop Kampala on Monday has now exploded, with people in several towns across the country facing the wrath of police tear gas and bullets. In Jinja, police operations to quell the walk-to-work demonstration were beefed up by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) in armoured vehicles (mambas), after demonstrators blocked roads with huge stones and lit tyres.
