Magistrates in bribery scam

In a curious petition to the country’s chief justice, about 50 prisoners held in Luzira have laid corruption charges against judicial officers in Kampala’s lower courts that could “gravely undermine the credibility of magistrates and the courts they lead.” At least 53 Ugandans indebted to loan sharks are now incarcerated and rotting away in Luzira prison at the instigation of a mafia racket operating around courts of law, the petitioners say.
