Soccer enthusiasts in Uganda will always point back to the glorious national team of the 1978 African Nations Cup tournament, where The Cranes reached the final, losing 0-2 to hosts Ghana. Today, these heroes have been confronted by life’s reality and some have been lost to oblivion, while others’ names still sound echoes in different perspectives of the local game.

The glorious 1978 Cranes side was coached by Peter Okee and managed by Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, a seasoned politician now.
