Ugandans who love chicken are eating underweight broilers as the country grapples with high prices of poultry feed. “It takes broilers 20 weeks to get to their adult weight and be ready for eating, however chicken roasters are buying 10-week-old broilers,” Lawrence Kaggwa, a poultry farmer and feed dealer, said.
At that age and with poor feeding, the broilers would not have put on weight necessary to fetch optimal market prices of the birds.
